ZAG ERLAT (AKA ZAGOR), LONDON BASED MUSIC PRODUCER, DJ, AND FILMMAKER IS ALSO THE PERSON BEHIND THE YOUTUBE CHANNEL 'MY ANALOG JOURNAL’, WAS BORN AND RAISED IN ISTANBUL, TURKEY.
Back in 2015, Zag, being passionate about film photography, would go on a lot of trips in the countryside where he would take a lot of pictures using analog cameras. He would then post them on the YouTube and Instagram accounts, called ‘My Analog Journal’. But eventually, by also posting content about music on vinyl; the music content began to gain a lot more traction than analog photography.
By narrowing down the content, Zag was now able to focus more on the music and so he did a lot of research on the Anatolian rock genre, its golden era, the 70s, and the DJs that used to and are playing it. Through the magic of YouTube, he came to discover a lot of organic grooves and hidden gems from all around the world, like Brazilian funk, Thai Luk Thung, Soviet jazz, Afro-funk, and Japanese city pop. So it’s fair to say that in the global 70’s and 80’s funk, My Analog Journal channel found its own voice. By the end of December 2020, My Analog Journal Youtube channel has reached 375k subscribers.
Moreover, he started having guest DJ on the channel to differentiate his content and having residencies at Netil Radio, and occasional gigs in London, UK.
